Writer Friends

I had an amazing week last week.

I hosted a book discussion at my house for BONDED by Michelle Davidson Argyle, and Michelle even came (and blogged about it!). How cool is that?

I had dinner with her and my CP, Kathryn (who mentioned me in her blog this week, too).

And then on a last minute crazy whim, I bought a plane ticket late Thursday afternoon to California and flew there a few hours later to spend the weekend with another CP, Emily. So. Much. Fun.

Katie, Emily, & Michelle. My you're looking thin these days, Em.

It took me a year and a half after starting to write before I even met another writer let alone become friends with one. Fast forward to today, and not a day goes by that I don't talk on the phone with, email, text, social media-ize or read other writers' blogs. OR, apparently, fly to their hometown and eat all their food. :) And though I am super-tight with my critique group and a few other writers, I've never met most of those I consider my writer friends.

What started out for me as a fulfilling yet lonely hobby has become a huge network of the biggest support group any writer could wish for, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Do you have writer friends? Have you ever met them in person? Any surprises from your weekend?

This song's dedicated to Taryn and Robin who I didn't get to see last week but really wish I did, because we own the sky...

What a lot of fun you had! Sadly I've never met another writer in person, but I would love to.

Aside from people in my writer's group, no...or should I say not yet.

It took me awhile to get to know people too. But I'm more of one to sit back and listen then jump into the conversation.

I've never met any writer friends in person, there are not too many who are close. But maybe someday I'll be lucky enough to.

Suzanne-I'm sure you will one day. :)

Martin-Yes, not yet. :)

Suzi-I'm lucky that there are a ton of writers where I live.

Last week was definitely eventful for you! I'm so glad I got to be a part of it. And I'm happy you got to see Emily in person again, and that she didn't have to be a cut-out to enjoy the fun this time around. I'm truly grateful for your friendship and support. I can't imagine continuing to write without it! <3

I haven't met many in person, but met thousands here online. Never knew this writing community existed, either.

ilima said...

Johanna-Haha. She was jealous she couldn't be here with us so we pretended she was. :)

Morgan-Aren't they wonderful? :)

Alex-Seriously a huge community. And I like to think of you as the godfather of us all, haha.

Well, I would definitely consider you my friend, although we have never met. I can't tell you how many times I've wished I lived closer to some of my blogging pals,so I could get together with them.

Sheena-kay-One day you will. And it will be worth it!

Jaybird-Seriously. One day one of us will be on tour for a novel we wrote and we WILL meet each other, I'm sure of it! <3

Awe, that's the sweetest thing, a song dedicated to me. And I'm so slow on blogs these days that I'm just now seeing your post.
As you know, my writing journey started with one close friend and now has expanded to so many more writers. What a great community to be a part of. And seriously, how awesome that you were able to drop everything and fly to Emily's.

Hugs!
