Did you know there is a new Star Trek book series geared toward teens? It follows the new alternate Star Trek timeline based on the recent movies and focuses on the Starfleet Academy. I haven't read any of them, but Uhura plays a lead role in the first of the series--THE DELTA ANOMALY--which claims to be filled with romance and adventure.
"As he approached Uhura, Kirk was disappointed to see that his fun had been compromised: She looked to be already uncomfortable, and it wasn't because of him."
Do you like Uhura? Tell me some of your favorite U characters.

Uhura was one of my favorites in the original Star Trek, but I only saw the movie with the newest crew once, and can't really say how the new one is.
Uhura is a great character and played now by a great actress who is extremely beautiful. I have loved Zoe Saldana in pretty much everything she has done.
Hmm...interesting. For U I have to jump into the movie verse and pick Ursula from The Little Mermaid. She was a charismatic villain and knew how to use your dreams and hopes against you. What more could you ask for from a childhood villain?
I had no idea, sounds good :)
Uhura has been a phenomenal influence since her creation. Looking back at Classic Star Trek now, it might seem that it's not big deal to have a woman communications officer. But back then, a woman--and a black woman--in such a role was HUGE. And even Uhura's name is significant. It means 'freedom' in Swahili.
Uhura, I've never read or watched her (don't shoot me!) So cool that her name means 'freedom' in Swahili. I LOVE significant names. Not that my characters usually have them-lol
Awesome! I see great potential for a series like that. :)
I liked Uhura in the new Star Trek film...mainly because she had no problem bum rushing Spock...lol
Big fan of Uhura! I could get into that teen series, for sure. :)
I'm a fan of anything Star Trek!
Love her! I want her boots.
Wow, I've got lots of Ilima blog posts to catch up on! That's what happens when I go into a revision cave during blogging A-to-Z month. :-) I love Zoe Saldana (I think that's her name)--the actress that played Uhura (never caught that name before). Happy U day!
