What I've been up to...

For the last couple of weeks, my life has been this:

Season tickets for the whole fam.

Hosting parties for the kids. Tess Hilmo lovingly called this one 8th grade soup. :)

Homeschooling the little rugrats.

No, I haven't been reading. I've been trading rooms in the house and this is the start of my new "writing retreat."

It takes a tank and a miracle to get anywhere near my house these days thanks to construction.

But mostly, I've been doing this:

I can't believe how spot on this video is. It is me and the husband EXACTLY. A special thanks to Emily Prusso for making me watch BSG and calling me out with this clip. But now that it's over (for me at least, my husband is already on episode 10 on his second round thanks to resting at home after lasik surgery...he is insane), I can finally get back to doing more of this:

House in desperate need of cleaning.

Which leaves a whole lot of NO TIME for actual writing. But that's okay. That's the beauty of life. Our priorities shift and change, often from day to day, and that's okay. Besides, I figure I could use all this "living" for story inspiration. I'm sure teen football homeschoolers obsessed with BSG in a world of dirty houses and construction thick neighborhoods is the next big thing in YA lit. Right?

That video was pretty funny. I've never seen Battlestar Galactica. I guess I'm missing out. :)

I love your house, though! And the mountains behind it are just gorgeous.

How does the homeschooling thing work out for you? (Something I've thought of too).

The Husband and I, back before we had kids used to have weekends just like that video. (Including the ordering of chinese food)

Hope the Lasik surgery went well for your husband. I've scheduled and cancelled like three times because I'm so chicken. The eye surgeon doesn't take my calls anymore... LOL

And your house is like a magazine, it's gorgeous. The mountains in the background are so beautiful!

I love your writer's retreat. That's where I would be hanging out, for sure.

I've thought very hard about home schooling. If I were a bit more organized, (and not quite so ill) I would be doing it now. Your kids are so blessed to have you as their mom! OK, I'm monopolizing all of the comment space again...sorry!

Suzi-Oh, you are. If you ever plan to see it, make sure you plan life around it because it's addicting.

Jay-This is my 9th year homeschooling, so I feel like I've got it down now, but it's definitely a lifestyle change. So worth it, though.

Jaybird-You can hog the comment space all you want, girl! I'm terrified of Lasik, too. And I feel like I've false advertised--that's not my house, it's my neighbor's. (I'm standing at the top of my driveway) And when they built their ginormous house (4 stories, people) it blocked our gorgeous mountain view. Oh well.

Yes, that's the PERFECT idea for a new YA book! ;-) I'm too wary to even watch this clip of people watching BSG...somehow it'll spoil something for me. *is paranoid* Live up the real life times right now. Already sounds like you're making wonderful memories for your family, and in the end, that's the most important thing.

Ha ha. Ilima that clip is so like you and your husband. I love, "Starbuck wouldn't call anybody."

You're welcome for the BSG tip, but I'm glad you have your life back and I can't wait to see your new writing space!

Katie-I knew it, I call dibs on that idea. And I can't wait for you to start watching BSG so we can all talk about it!

Emily-That video cracks me up every time. Yes, thank you and I'm glad to have my life back too. I'll be sure to post pictures of my writing room when it's done!

I made it halfway through BSG and I've gotten distracted. I will return to that series. But I have the full first season of Big Bang Theory that I checked out. So... you know, Sheldon can't be ignored. Bang, bang, bang. Jenny. Bang, bang, bang. Jenny. Bang, bang, bang. Jenny. ;0)

Lovely photos, Ilima! :)

Jenny-It's so worth pushing through that halfway period. I was literally balling in those last episodes. So good. And yay for Big Bang Theory. Bang-bang-bang, Jenny. Lol. You should make a tshirt of that one. Did you know Starbuck was on an episode of BBT?

Angie-Yes, I have a personal copy and a lending copy of each...I got so sick of not having my copies I bought another of each. 8th grade soup is scary indeed.

Carrie-Thanks!

Loved the story in pictures and am totally envious about your kitchen! Fantastic!!

Morgan-Yes, apparently I'm addicted to stress. Homeschooler, writer...

Sylvia-Thanks so much!

So I wanted to congratulate you on your new book coming out, but I couldn't find your email address. When does it come out? Email me and we'll discuss. It's so fun, but a lot of work. I'm happy to share any tips I've learned. :) authorrachel@gmail.com

Oh man, that's the next thing in YA right there!

SO excited football season has begun! And the intern I was in charge of this summer goes to BYU. They have good kids there. My intern was THE BEST! :)

Being a writing momma demands flexibility. Writing, like everything else, ebbs and flows. The trick is enjoying both sides of the process.

Robin-I'm totally in the know with what's popular with today's teens. I'm groovy like that, dude.

Rachel-No book out yet. Not even close. *newly agented* I'll be sure to let you know, though.

Kelley-Of course they have good kids there...it's my alma mater. :) Plus my brother played football for BYU a few years back--it was a blast getting to see him play.

Emily-You are such a good example of how to be an amazing writing momma. Ebbs and flows...I like that. :)
